Asher Franklin has always loved his family, but ever since moving back to his hometown for work, he's grown surprisingly close with the little brother who always used to follow him around. Marti is eighteen now, a sweet young man with a cheerful attitude and a wry sense of humor. Charming, in ways Asher never anticipated.

Asher enjoys the way their relationship has transformed, from a kid brother's hero worship into genuine friendship. He loves spending time with Marti, as they find their way to more level footing. He doesn't like Marti's boyfriend, but that's certainly not his brother's fault. Asher can't put his finger on why the guy bothers him so much. It's not like Asher can possibly be jealous.

It's not like he wants Marti for himself. That would be monstrous, and for all Asher's faults, surely he is not a monster.
